From Starter to Slice: Embrace National Sourdough Bread Day

homemade sourdough bread and how to get tarted on your own sourdough practice

I’ve been making sourdough bread since before it was cool during the pandemic. As my loaf quality has increased, so has my love for the bread. I’m sharing a few reasons why you should be incorporating sourdough into your diet as well as my favorite resources to get started!

Blood sugar - The fermentation of the starter and the fiber content can help manage blood sugar. Fiber helps to slow down digestion because it is more difficult to break down.

Gut health - fermented foods have shown the potential to boost the health of the good bacteria in your gut.

Improved nutrient profile - our bodies struggle to absorb certain minerals due to phytate, a phytic acid found in grains. Due to the fermentation process, the phytate is deactivated which allows us to absorb all the healthy vitamins and minerals like potassium, magnesium, and zinc.

Flavor, vitamins and minerals, and gut health? Amazing. As promised, I’m going to share my favorite resources for sourdough. I found these links on Pinterest and I’ve also seen a few resources on TikTok.
