Staying Stoked on Nutrition While on Vacation
Last week we talked about staying active on vacation and now we’re going to talk about staying stoked about nutrition while you’re on vacation!
As I’ve said before, vacation doesn’t have to turn into a binge party. You can enjoy your treats while on vacation guilt-free! These are some of my tried and true tips that have helped me stay on track and even lose weight on vacation!
Plan: I try to plan ahead for my macros as much as possible. If I’m going out to dinner one night, I’ll look at the menu ahead of time and plug in what I think I’m going to order. From there, I’ll work backward to create my macros for the rest of the day. I may add a few extra macros in just to be sure that I’m on track. Sound a bit stuffy for your taste? Track 75-80% of your day and leave yourself plenty of wiggle room for dinner out! This can be a nice way to relax and start practicing eyeballing portion sizes.
Prioritize Natural: Being flexible with your nutrition allows you to have your cake and hit your goals too. Achieving your goals also means you need to have discipline to stick to your fruits, veggies, lean proteins, and healthy fats to nourish your body. Opt for leaner options and whole foods as much as possible, if you know you’re going to have a few drinks or a calorically dense meal.
Memories Over Macros: Sometimes, we slip up. Planning can be fatiguing at times and at other times we just need a break from being dialed in, I get it! Be present, accept that it happened, and do the next right thing. Drink your water, prioritize natural foods, and get some healthy movement in.
